A gear change device for a vehicle gearbox has a gear change lever with pivoting location, having a spherical bearing located in a ball socket in the housing, and pivoting about two axes (25-25,26-26) geometrically vertical to each other. The lever (4) is held in a neutral position, on one side by the housing and on the other via a plate spring (15) and return spring (13) supported on the sphere. The sphere moves freely in relation to the sphere, such that the return spring remains unextended when the lever is pivoted to engage or disengage a gear. USE/ADVANTAGE - Neutral lever position coupled to inner switching device to hold predetermined gear path, whilst avoiding springing out of engaged gear.
