The protection apparatus is connected to a data transmission element of a data carrier which cooperates with a computer (C). The data carrier may be a diskette, magnetic tape, compact disk or such like. The protection apparatus includes a generator (G). The generator generates a coded signal (T) in the form of the output signal from the data carrier concerned. The generation of the codes signal is triggered from the computer. The coded signal is synchronised with the clock frequency of the computer by a generator controlled cycle control. ADVANTAGE - Provides greater security against unauthorised use of computer.
