Paste cleaner for aluminium surface - contg. solid of alkali metal cpd. or fatty amine ethoxylate and liq. phase of polyethylene glycol, propylene carbonate, propylene glycol or fatty alcohol ethoxylate

A paste cleaner for Al and Al alloy surfaces contains (a) 50-80 wt.% of an alkaline solid powder comprising an alkali metal borate, phosphate, pyro- or triphosphate, or carbonate, of 12-22C fatty amine with 5-20 ethylene oxide units, and (b) 50-20% of an organic liq. phase comprising polyethylene glycol with mol. wt. not above 2000, propylene carbonate, propylene glycol or 12-18C fatty alcohols with 2-7 ethylene oxide units. The particle size of the solid is below 50 microns. Pref. the alkali metal is Na, and the liq. phase is polyethylene glycol with mol. wt. 200-400. The solid contains 50-60% of Na tetraborate, 20-30% of Na pyrophosphate, 5-15% of Na2CO3, 1-10% of Na triphosphate, and 1-10% of 12-14C fatty amine with 12 EO. The compsn. may also contain up to 1% of an alkali metal (pref. Na), salt of a 12-22C (16C) tallow fatty acid to give consistency. The liq. phase may contain 0.1-10% of ethanol, propanol and/or isopropanol. The particle size is 20-25 microns. ADVANTAGE - The compsn. is easy to handle and dust-free, and may be measured continuously or automatically.
