In hydrocarbon recovery by adsorption from a waste air stream, adsorber regeneration is effected by a hydrocarbon-rich desorbate stream being withdrawn under reduced pressure from the adsorber, parified in an absorption device and returned with reduced hydrocarbon content to the waste air stream. The novelty is that, prior to entry into the adsorber, the waste air stream is loadee with a hydrocarbon-insoluble cooling liq. in a condensaton stage, the resulting hydrocarbon condensate is separated from the cooling liq. and the condensate is used as absorbent in the absorption device. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is used esp. for recovery of gasoline vapours released during filling of and storage in refineries, tanks, tankers and the like. It prevent a high and long term constant air purificn. capacity, even when the air stream contains higher boiling hydrocarbons.
