A photographic flash apparatus comprises a rotatable socket for a flash-cube (as defined) and means for automatically ejecting the cube when all the lamps therein have been used. As shown, a flash-cube 3 having a base 3a with projections 3b is retained in a socket comprising an axially fixed, apertured wheel 2 by a hair-pin spring 4. As the cube is inserted it depresses an ejector 5 against the force of a spring 6 so that a lug 5c is pushed through a notch 1c in the apparatus housing 1 until it lies below an annular surface 1d of the housing; the cube and socket are then rotated through 45 degrees so that the ejector is prevented from returning and ejecting the cube by lug 5c engaging surface 1d; means for preventing rotation being made in the wrong direction e.g. a spring clip, are preferably provided. After each lamp is fired, the cube is rotated through 90 degrees to connect the next lamp into the firing circuit; this rotation may be effected manually, or automatically, e.g. by the film drive mechanism in a camera, by means of toothed or friction wheels 7 and 8, the former being connected by a shaft 9 connected to a grooved coupling disc 11 urged upwards by a spring 10 into driving engagement with projection 5c when a cube is present; when a cube is not present projection 5c lies in notch 1c and is not engaged. When the socket and cube have been rotated through one revolution, i.e. after all the flash-lamps have been used, projection 5c is aligned with notch 1c and hence ejector 5 is returned by spring 6 to eject the cube. An annular rubber disc may be provided over wheel 2 to prevent the cube being ejected violently. |
