A multistorey garage comprises at each storey support members 5, Figs. 1, 2, which are rotatably mounted on a column 24 for movement between parking positions shown in full and a position shown in chain-line where they co-operate with a lift 10, platforms 4 being provided on which the vehicles are transported. As shown, the garage is disposed underground, but may be partly or entirely above ground level and it may vary in diameter throughout its height. Each member 5 comprises two pairs of fork arms 5a and the lift 10 has fork arms 19 and in operation the platforms 4 are deposited on or removed from the arms 5a when the latter are in the chain-line position by vertical movement of the lift 10. The members 5 are mounted on anti-friction bearings 8 and have toothed rings 9 which are engaged by pinions 20 driven by motors fixed on the column 24 or on the wall 1. The column 24 is supported by spacers 23. The lift 10 is moved by driven pinions 14, 15 engaging a rack 27, or by cables 21, 22. The pinions may be replaced by friction rollers engaging a rail replacing the rack 27. The lift has lateral guide rollers 18 engaging guide rails 16, 17; the rollers 18 may also be driven. |
