Pair of turrets are mounted for independent rotation about a common axis, each turret carrying mandrel supports individually rotatable about axes lying on a circle concentric with the common axis, with adjacent mandresl being carried by different turrets. Pref. each mandrel support is rotated by its own drive motor and the turrets can be arranged so that after a pressure-sensitive vinyl tape is formed into a rool on one mandrel both turrets are rotated to move the formed roll away, and bring an adjacent mandrel into, the winding station. The turret supporting the new mandrel is stopped with the mandrel opposite the winding station, a tape cutter is actuated to sever the tape between the mandrels and the other turret stopped when the completed rool is opposite an unloading station. Esp. used for winding pressure-sensitive vinyl electrical tape at the discharge end of a tape coating machine. |
