PURPOSE:To make correction of an error easy, by constituting the title method so that a plurality of sheet detecting parts are provided on a sheet conveying path in a widthwise direction at intervals, one signal varying its level in accordance with a detecting condition is made to put out and a sheet size is decided based on the signal level. CONSTITUTION:A sensor is formed of paper length detecting mechanisms 204, 205, respective of which are constituted of shafts 210, 212 fitted with shading plates 201, 202 and levers 211, 213. Then when forms are fed, the levers 211, 213 are turned by being pressed, the shading plates 201, 202 also are turned, a light path of a light emitting diode 203 is opened and the form 220 is detected. The shading plates 201, 202 are lowered, restored, light of the light emitting diode is intercepted and a paper length is detected. When a form is recording paper 221, it becomes that only the paper length detecting mechanism 204 operates. Therefore, a paper width is decided whether both the paper length detecting mechanisms 204, 205 operate together or not. |
