A flat cam comprises a first part 3, angularly adjustable to modify the slope of the cam profile, carrying a second part displaceable with respect to the first part to modify the length of the cam profile. The control mechanism of a machine tool comprises a polygonal drum 2 having bolted thereto a U-shaped support 1 having run-in and run-out sections 8, 10 respecrively and having a blind locating hole 13 at the end of the run-in 8. The hole 13 receives a pivot 12 of a cam first part 3 angularly movable about the pivot to vary the slope C1 of the cam surface 11. A second cam part 4 is adjustably secured to the first part by a rib 20 and slot 18 such that a cam surface 19 remains coplanar with surface 11 while permitting variation in cam length b1. A scale 24 is provided to give an indication of the movement produced by the cam. In a second embodiment the adjustable cam is mounted perpendicularly to the surface of the drum. |
