PURPOSE:To suppress a transient phenomenon and the distortion of a display image right after a voltage is turned off. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal 19 is sealed in the space delineated by a pair of transparent substrates which consist of a flat planar substrate (flat plate glass) 11 and a non-flat planar substrate (Fresnel lens) 15 disposed to face the flat planar substrate 11 and are formed with transparent conductive films 12, 16 and orientation treated films 13, 17 respectively on the inside surfaces facing each other. A chiral agent is added in a prescribed amt. to the liquid crystal 19. The instantaneous liquid crystal molecular behavior right after the voltage is turned off is controlled by the action of the chiral agent to unidirectionally force the twisting direction of the liquid crystal molecules, by which the transient phenomenon and the distortion of the display image are controlled. |
