PURPOSE:To realize an electrostatic type developing device and a cleaning device used in a copying machine, a facsimile, and further a laser printer, etc., and constituted by deciding the form and the setting position of a box having necessary minimum size and volume by theoretically calculating the scattering locus of developer, and a method for designing the box used in the devices. CONSTITUTION:The electrostatic type developing device is constituted by peeling the unnecessary developer T left without being attracted to a photosensitive drum 5 from a cylindrical sleeve 2 rotatably externally mounted on a magnet roll 1 after being attracted to the sleeve 2 in a peeling zone P and recovering it in the box 3. The form and the setting position of the box having the necessary minimum size and volume enough to surely recover the developer T are decided by utilizing that the developer scatters along the potential surface of magnetic field formed by the magnetic pole of the magnet roll 1 from napping 13 formed in the peeling zone and claculating the scattering locus based on gravity and centrifugal force by the rotation of the sleeve 2.
