The spray tool (102b) deposits the coating product (2) on the surface to be treated (32). The treatment surface is moved by a conveyor (123). A motorised wheel (112) forming a masking disc is mounted above the spray tool (102b). The axis of rotation (R) of the masking wheel (112) extends in a vertical plane perpendicular to the median plane (M) of the vehicle (3). The wheel follows tool displacement and its rotating peripheral edge (113) is a few millimetres form the treatment surface (32) to obtain a coating with a definite upper limit. ADVANTAGE - Reduces the cost of masking surface parts which must not be coated.
