PURPOSE:To obtain an accurate focusing position without adding any special circuit by performing processes including a picture quality compensating process and generating a video signal to be recorded. CONSTITUTION:A preprocess circuit 3 obtains a normal video signal from the subject image signal from an image pickup element 2 by performing processes such as sample holding and gain control. An aperture compensating circuit 5 receives the signal, and demodulates the edge component to generate an aperture compensation signal Sig1 which becomes large at the time of focusing and small in an out-of-focus state. A contrast extracting circuit 6, on the other hand, extracts a contrast signal Sig2 corresponding to an image pickup contrast from the video signal from the circuit 3. A system controller 7 receives and selects those two signals Sig1 and Sig2 to control an actuator 1, thereby making a pit adjustment. Thus, the signal Sig1 is utilized for focusing operation, the correspondence between a focusing feeling and a picture quality feeling is optimized, and the focusing operation is performed without any additional circuit. |
