The branch connector fitted to the main pipe (2) comprises on its upper part a tube (21) fitted perpendicular to the walls of the main pipe, and having a lateral piece (22) of the branch pipe. The lower part contains a saddle (23) which clamps it to the main pipe (2). Sealant is injected between the saddle and the outer wall of the pipe around the hole to be drilled. The tube contains in its upper section the demountable drive mechanism of the cutting tool, and the lower part contains the cutting tool (28). This tool contains in its mid-section an inverted U-shaped sealing ring (35). The joint between the ring and the lower cutting face (32) forms a truncated cone (33). USE/ADVANTAGE - For drilling into the wall of a gas main for the fitting of a branch line. Prevents any leakage of gas during the operation, and can also operate as a shut-off valve between the main pipe and the branch line.
