PURPOSE:To provide the video camera which performs excellent automatic zooming operation even when an image processing system is employed for automatic focusing. CONSTITUTION:A lens group includes a zoom lens 1b and a focus lens 1d. A detection part 8 obtains an evaluated value EST from the contrast component of a video signal Y and a controller 9 adjusts the focus by moving the focus lens 1d so that the evaluated value EST becomes maximum. An automatic zoom button 15 is connected to the controller 9 and when this automatic zoom button 15 is turned ON, the distance of a subject is found from the position of the focus lens 1d after the position of the zoom lens 1b is moved to the telephoto end; and the zoom lens position is found from the distance information and the zoom lens 1b is moved to this position, thus performing the automatic zooming operation. The distance of the subject is found from the position of the focus lens after the zoom lens 1b is moved to the telephoto end, and then the distance of the subject can precisely be found. |
