A fixed probe arranged after the catalyser in the exhaust flow monitors the composition of the exhaust gas. The arrangement directly displays the measurement values and/or stores them. A driver's signal device is activated depending on the measurement values. The measurement values are stored in a memory which can be read or cleared. They are not stored during fixed time intervals or over defined catalyser operating ranges, e.g. during the starting phase. The functionality of the catalyser is derived from the measured values and engine control data. USE/ADVANTAGE - For checking catalytically cleaned exhaust gas from vehicle engine.
