Exhaust system for vehicle IC engine - uses catalytic converter fed by two pipes of different cross=sections

The exhaust gas system has two pipes (6, 7) which run from the engine (1) to a catalytic converter (2). A blocking arrangement (8) controls the distribution of the gases between the two pipes. The two pipes (6, 7) differ in their cross-sections such that one pipe (7) alone can carry all the gases when the catalytic converter is cold. The pipe (7) used when cold is the one with the smaller cross-section. USE/ADVANTAGE - Exhaust system for vehicle IC engine ensures rapid warming up of catalytic converter during cold start, and also avoids overheating at full load.
