This circuit compresses data for a long play mode of digital audio system. It especially performs compression of 16 bit data into 12 bit data. It consists of five stages of; the 1st for generating 14 bit data, the 2nd for receiving the 1st generating signal and generating the 2nd generating signal, the 3rd for generating low/high level signals according to the counting signal and low-level signal, the 4th for generating the lower 9th bit data and the 5th for generating the compressed 12 bit data.
