Process for obtaining new 4-benzylpiperidine derivatives. It comprises the alkylation of 4-benzylpiperidines (II) with 3-halopropyl derivatives of general formula (IV) where Y is halogen and R is hydrogen, p-fluorophenoxy, bis(p-fluorophenyl)-methyl or 8-azaspiro[4,5]decan- 7,9-dione-8-yl-methyl, or with 2-(3-chloropropyl)-2- (p-fluorophenyl)-1,3-dioxolan (V) thus yielding the end products (I) in which R has the same meaning as in (IV) or intermediate ethylene chetals of general formula (III). The latter are hydrolysed to end products (I) where R is p-fluorobenzoyl, and may in turn be reduced to other end products (I) where R is alpha-hydroxy-p- fluorobenzyl. X indicates hydrogen or fluorine throughout. Compounds of general formula (I) have pharmacological application on account of their activity on the central nervous system. <IMAGE>
