Termination of cables in producing electrical harnesses is effected by cutting (21) a shield ribbon cable (C) into two portions, making shallow cuts (24, 24) in the sheath of each portion, pulling (31, 32) the two cable portions in opposite directions so as to separate sheath portions (11a) from the respective cuts with the uncovered terminals (3a, 8a) of the cable portions still extending into the sheath portions (11a), and cutting (25) the uncovered terminals (3a, 8a) at the ends of the respective sheath portions (11a) so as to align the cut ends thereof leaving cut off scrap ends (14) of the terminals (3a, 8a) held within the cut-off sheath portions (11a).
