The operating device uses a pedal (1) supported from a pivot axis (4) and a source cylinder with a cylinder housing (7) attached to the pedal and a sliding piston (9) displaced by the depression of the pedal via a piston rod (10). The cylinder housing and the piston rod extend in the longitudinal direction of the pedal, with the opposite end of the piston rod to the sliding piston attached via a coupling element (11) to a mounting (14) at a given spacing from the pivot axis for the pedal.
