An image reproduction system for colour representation of a video image transmitted by primary colour signals (R, G, B) includes a display (6), on the screen surface (7) of which three video image surfaces (11) are arranged, for monochrome representation of the intensity images (10) associated with the primary colours. The primary colour signals stored in a colour signal memory (2) are read, as recorded, by a picture element control module (9) of the display, co-operating with a read control module (4) of the memory, and formed in an optical device (13) into a colour image (15) on a display surface (16).
