PURPOSE:To enable the monitor of the recorded image just before a pause by reproducing the recording content in a recording mode just before rewinding in succession to the rewinding before the pause state is attained when the changeover from the recording mode to the pause mode is selected. CONSTITUTION:A system control section 9 shifts to the state of a reverse mode when a pause button is pushed during the recording mode. The rewinding of a triple speed is executed for a certain specified period of time in the reverse mode (camera-through picture is in this period). The reverse mode is thereafter shifted into a short play mode. The picture recording pause state is attained and the recording stops upon arrival at a certain set position before the position where the recording pause is executed in this mode. The short premode is attained when a recording button is pushed again. The recording is started at the point of the time when the synchronization coincides. The monitor screen is the camera-through picture in the short play mode.
