Digital pulse compression radar system - includes uses of sensitivity time control, with correction to prevent control imposing distortion on compression law of radar

The system has a time variable gain, or sensitivity time control (STC) which are used in the radar receiver to normalise in amplitude the received echoes. The use of STC in a pulse compression radar introduces distortions in the compression law of the radar. The distortions are corrected in the digital pulse compression radar system which effects a correlation in a time window (12) by bringing back all the samples intervening in the correlation to a constant attenuation value. The attenuation is effected by use of a constant amplitude level. ADVANTAGE - Digital pulse compression radar able to detect weak signals from distant targets without distortion.
