Type moulding process - using polyester resin mixed with powdered metal in moulds of elastomer, provides e.g. ornamental letters

The type moulding process for use in printing, consists of using an elastomer mould for the characters, covered and sealed by a plate which is also of an elastomer and is charged with lead shot. The characters are moulded from a mixt. of polyester resin and powdered metal (e.g. copper, bronze, brass or tin) with a grain size of about 15 microns to ensure faithful reproduction of the mould shape. The resin is heated to 50 deg.C before the metal powder is added to form at least 25% of the moulded characters. USE/ADVANTAGE - Suitable for making characters not normally available, e.g. ornamented letters. The characters produced by the process can be used with standard printing machines.
