A can opener of the general type disclosed in US Patent 5181322 is disclosed which includes a cutter wheel 30 engageable with the rim of a can and a spindle 16 having a drive wheel 18 adapted to grip the rim of a can on an opposed side to said cutter wheel, the cutter wheel and drive wheel being rotatably mounted relative to a support means of the can opener and wherein the spindle is rotatably mounted in relation to the support means by means of at least one rolling bearing, preferably a needle roller bearing.
