PURPOSE:To increase the maximum distance that a hybrid vehicle having an electric motor for driving the vehicle and an internal combustion engine for power generation can travel, and to improve power performance. CONSTITUTION:A control flag F is set to a value for representing a vehicle operating state discriminated based on vehicle operating parameters such as the actual vehicle speed VV and the accelerator pedal depressed amount thetaACC, and necessity of charging the battery is judged (S101, S103). Then, an engine operation for a battery supplement is conducted by a small throttle opening thetaLOW during traveling of the vehicle in a low load range and when battery charging is not required (S104), or by a large throttle opening thetaHIGH during traveling of the vehicle in high load or when the battery charging is required (S105). |
