PURPOSE:To provide an optical transmitter having a reflection light detection function able to detect and discriminate correctly a disconnection state of an output optical connector. CONSTITUTION:The optical transmitter employing a distribution feedback semiconductor laser 12 as a light source and using a frequency multiplex signal to apply direct brightness modulation to a laser beam and to convert the modulated beam into an optical signal and sending the signal to an optical transmission line 43 via an optical connector 41 is provided with an optical branch means 3 branching the laser beam sent from the distribution feedback semiconductor laser 12 into an optical output signal and an output monitor use optical monitor signal, and transmission line connection state detection means 5, 6, 7 receiving a reflected light reflected in the optical connector 41 or the optical transmission line 43 via the optical branch means 3 to detect a connection fault state of the transmission line. |
