1,067,760. Recording and play-back. BELL & HOWELL CO. June 28, 1965 [June 26, 1964], No. 27254/65. Heading G5R. In a reversible multi-track tape recorder the erasing head 33 and record/play-back head 34 are mounted on an arm 36 which rotates 180 degrees when the direction of the tape is reversed. The larger bevel gear 49 drives the smaller bevel gear 44 which is coupled to the shaft, and a member 63 connected to the larger bevel gear operates a linkage 62, 54, 51 and 52 which holds the tape away until the heads are in their new position. In other embodiments the linkage moves the capstan and pressure roller assembly. In a further embodiment the tape is not moved and the head assembly is pivoted and drawn back by the linkage alongside its axis of rotation so as to reduce the necessary clearance. |
