The press assembly, to extract water from a fibre and especially a paper web, has two pressure units working against each other, with one of them as a shoe press. At least one blanket and a web pass through the pressure gap between the units. A drive acts on at least one of the two press units. At least one roller is rotated by the blanket, after it leaves the pressure gap. Pref. the roller rotated by the blanket is a pick-up roller or an external suction roller, or a guide roller within the blanket loop which imposes a sharp deflection in its path. The roller can also be a suction roller within the blanket loop. USE/ADVANTAGE - The press section is for the water removal from a web, where the position of the upper or lower press shoe can be set at will when the position of the pressure gap and the press units are fixed, with a given entry angle for the running web.
