The video recorder records a picture carrier (BT) frequency modulated with a luminance signal (Y) and a colour carrier (Fm) reduced in frequency. On recording, the luminance signal is first frequency modulated onto a modified picture carrier (BTm) whose frequency is higher than that of the picture carrier. The frequency of the modified carrier is converted to the picture carrier frequency with a mixer carrier (M1) from the line sync. pulse (S).
