Infusion equipment for an automatically-operated coffee machine has an inlet (3) for coffee powder, an infusion chamber (1), a hot water inlet (5) and an outlet pipe (12) for brewed coffee. The infusion chamber is fitted with a drive motor (24) which makes possible rotation about a vertical axis a plunger (2) which is also movable vertically by means of a drive motor (18). The plunger is vertically movable between (a) a lower, charging position for charging the chamber with coffee, (b) an upper, brewing position for preparation of coffee, and (c) a lower, cleaning position for removal of coffee residue through a waste pipe (13). Rotation of the plunger (2) makes possible an even distribution of the coffee powder during loading, and an even concentration of the coffee powder during brewing. The coffee grounds can also be removed effectively during cleaning.
