A separator for bound printed volumes has a nose (12) that projects out of the plane of the book. The separator is characterized in that it is designed as a separating leaf (10) whose inner edge opposite to the nose or noses is wider than the width (b) of the nose (12) and is provided with an adhesive material (16) for securing it to the inner side (22) of the book.
