PURPOSE:To easily compress picture data through the transmission/ reception of a characteristic point of a contour coordinate and to easily modify the picture data for each contour coordinate closed loop by suppressing ruggedness of oblique line and curved line parts while improving its resolution so as to compensate the resolution and sending receiving the picture without the conversion of a contour coordinate data string. CONSTITUTION:A contour extraction circuit 700 extracts a contour of picture data read by an image scanner 100, and the data are smoothed by using a contour coordinate data string from the contour extract circuit at a smoothing coordinate conversion circuit 900 and a smoothed contour coordinate data string is outputted. Then a binary picture reproduction circuit 1000 reproduces binary raster picture data from the contour coordinate data string from the contour extract circuit 700 or the smoothed contour coordinate data string. When the contour coordinate data string is sent/received in the G3 communication by using an analog telephone line, ECM is employed and when the frequency of retransmission of an HDLC packet is many due to the state of line, coded binary raster picture data in place of the contour coordinate data string are used for the transmission reception. |
