The central processing unit (1) is associated with a mathematical coprocessor (2), cache and system memories (3,4) and peripherals connected by a system bus (5). A high-resoln. liq. crystal colour screen (14) is located conventionally in front of the driver, with a similar display (15) on the dashboard visible to other occupants, and a head-up display (16) reflected from the windscreen. Programs and data are stored in nonvolatile memory (6-8,13) with an operating system suited to the particular application. Vehicular bus and analogue interfaces (22,23) are connected via expansion modules (20,21). ADVANTAGE - The appts. is flexibly adaptable to different needs and can be extended easily to meet future requirements.
