A sensing arrangement for detecting recording mark tracks (20,21) on a moving print material is connected to a circuit which evaluates the mark signals and which is connected to a measurement, control or regulation arrangement driving the printer's print control system. Additional distance reference marks (18,19) are applied to the printed material (5) in the direction of the recording mark tracks.
