A fibre-forming copolymer consists of 99-50% by weight of acrylonitrile and 1-50% by weight of vinyl bromide. The fibre-forming composition may also contain another polymer, e.g. an acrylonitrile-vinyl acetate copolymer. The copolymer of the invention may be made by a redox process and is soluble in dimethyl acetamide.
