PURPOSE:To provide a liquid crystal display device which can make an excellent black display at the center and the peripheral parts of a liquid crystal and is improved in contrast and a liquid crystal projection type television which uses it. CONSTITUTION:The device is equipped with a liquid crystal panel 91 which has the liquid crystal between a couple of a light-transmissive electrode substrates, polarizing plates 93 and 94 which are arranged on both sides of the liquid crystal panel 91, and an optical phase difference film 12 which is arranged between the polarizing plate 93 and liquid crystal panel 91 and has an optical phase difference correcting the optical anisotropy of the liquid crystal to incident light at the time of the application of a specific driving voltage to the liquid crystal. |
