PURPOSE:To enable detection of even a weak beam accurately by inserting a metal plate allowing the transmitting of the beam therethrough into a beam orbit to detect damping radiation. CONSTITUTION:A metal plate 3 is arranged on an orbit of a beam 2 cycling through a vacuum duct 1. The metal plate 3 is placed at a point where the beam makes almost one cycle. A detector 4 is placed askew in front of the metal plate 3 to catch damping radiation released intensely in the direction of the beam travels efficiently. An oscilloscope 5 is connected to the detector 4. As a result, the detector 4 detects the damping radiation being released at each cycle as the beam passes through the metal plate 3. The oscilloscope 5 displays a pulse. Loss of energy as caused when the beam passes through the metal plate 3 is expressed as the sum of a radiation loss and an ionization loss. If the beam can cycle without hitting the duct 1 or the like, the decrease per cycle in the height of the pulse to be detected is confined to a loss as caused when the beam passes through the metal plate. This enables the detection of even a weak beam accurately.
