PURPOSE:To compensate the color purity of light which is made incident on a liquid crystal display panel and improve the color irregularity of an image projected on a screen by arranging dichroic filters behind plural liquid crystal display panels. CONSTITUTION:This projection type liquid crystal display device has the dichroic filters 11A, 11B, and 11C arranged behind the liquid crystal display panels 6A, 6B, and 6C. The light which is made incident on the 1st liquid crystal display panel 6A has a 380-480nm wavelength band, the light made incident on the 2nd liquid crystal display panel 6B has a 490-580nm wavelength band, and the light made incident on the 3rd liquid crystal display panel 6C has a >=590nm wavelength band respectively. Even if the lights are made incident on the 1st and 2nd dichroic mirrors 4A and 4B for color separation at slightly different angles nearby and at a distance from the optical axis, the image projected on the screen can be prevented from having a color irregularity. |
