PURPOSE:To shorten the time of index retrieval and effectively utilize a resource by making the retrieval time for one index constant irrelevantly to the number of dictionaries when a basic dictionary and plural technical term dictionaries are used for translation by the machine translation system. CONSTITUTION:Once an indication part 10 specifies the use of the technical term dictionaries when the system is actuated, the index parts of the basic dictionary and specified technical term dictionaries are loaded in a work buffer 8. A retrieval table 11 for relating the index parts with the dictionary data is dynamically generated. When a request to retrieve an index word is made in a translating process, the retrieval table 11 is retrieved to confirm whether or not there is the index word, whether or not there is basic data, and whether or not there is technical term dictionary data. The pointer of dictionary data which is loaded in the dictionary work buffer 8 which is retrieved once is taken out of the retrieval table 11 when the same index word is retrieved, and the loaded dictionary data is referred to at the time of respective processes for analyzing, converting, and generating a translation. |
