PURPOSE:To improve a copying speed and to stabilize an image by providing a reference decision means and a correction means. CONSTITUTION:The surface potential of a photosensitive body 41 is detected by a potential sensor. However, the detected value is irregular in the circumferential direction of the body 41. The irregularity is caused by deflection by the eccentricity of the body 41 or the like. In order to optimally adjust the formation of the image such a condition as the potential V0 of a dark part and the potential Vi of a bright part when a reference toner image is formed should be fixed. Then, the best condition of electrostatic charge quantity and light quantity is previously decided before the image is formed. A latent image pattern equivalent to one round of the body 41 is formed and the potential is detected before the image is formed. Then, the average potential is calculated. Based on the calculated result, the image forming condition is decided. On the other hand, the image forming condition is easily corrected in order to increase the copying speed by forming the latent image at one part of the body 41 based on the condition and detecting the potential when the image is formed. |
