PURPOSE:To produce a gamma-halo-beta-hydroxybutyric ester useful as a raw material for synthesizing L-carnitine in high efficiency, by treating a gamma-haloacetoacetic ester with a microorganism belonging to the genus Sporobolomyces. CONSTITUTION:A gamma-haloacetoacetic ester is treated with a culture solution of a microorganism belonging to the genus Sporobolomyces, capable of reducing a gamma-haloacetoacetic acid into a gamma-halo-beta-hydroxybutyric ester, a mold or a treated material thereof. Sporobolomyces salmonicolor IFO1038 may be cited as the microorganism. |
