PURPOSE:To drastically reduce the initial wear of the surface of a roll at the time of rolling by sprinkling water on the surface of a roll, dulling it by laser beam through a thin water film before electroplating it, then, plating it with chrome. CONSTITUTION:For preventing a softened austenite phase from remaining on the projecting surface layer of the surface of a roll 1 roughened by laser beam machining, a spray water nozzle 5 is equipped on the lower part of a work head 4 where a convergent lens 3 of laser beam is built in, water of 10-100ml/min is sprinkled on the surface of the roll 1 as it is rotated, to form a thin water film and the surface of the roll is irradiated with laser beam through a water film and dulled. Then, the surface of the roll is dipped in chromic acid solution through degreasing, cleaning, electric etching and electroplated with 2-15mum chrome. In this way, separation of plated chrome is prevented during the rolling and the life of the roll is improved drastically. |
