PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst enabling efficient decomposition of nitrous oxide in exhaust gas even at a low temp. by supporting one or more kinds of noble metals selected among Ru, Rh, Pd, Re, Os, Ir and Pt on a hydrophobic carrier. CONSTITUTION:A hydrophobic carrier such as silica gel, activated alumina or silica-alumina is immersed in an aq. soln. of the chlorides of one or more kinds of noble metals selected among Ru, Rh, Pd, Re, Os, Ir and Pt for a certain time to impregnate the chlorides into the carrier. The carrier is then dried, subjected to reduction with hydrazine, dried and fired at about, 400-500 deg.C for about 3-5hr. The noble metals are supported on the hydrophobic carrier preferably by about 0.3-2wt.% and the objective catalyst for decomposition of nitrous oxide is obtd. |
