PURPOSE: To obtain a composition having an improved antibacterial properties that is effective for inhibiting the growth of microorganisms in a variety of products and/or improving the safety of the products, particularly for preventing contamination with Listeria. CONSTITUTION: This composition contains (A) a cell wall lysing agent or its salt, for example, lysozyme or its salt, in an amount of 5-2,000mg per kg of the product, (B) an antibacterial compound, preferably bacteriocin selected from nisin, pediosin and their mixture in an amount of 5-5,000 international units per kg of the product (calculated as the nisin equivalent) and (C) an adjuvant selected from the group consisting of organic acids (as acetic, citric or lactic acid) or their salts, phosphate salts, condensed phosphoric acid salts and other sequestering agents that are allowed to use in food products, cosmetics or sanitary goods such as EDTA, preferably citric acid in an amount of 0.05-10wt.% based on the whole weight of the product. |
