The filler consists of a vehicle equipped with a bin for carrying the filling material, e.g. sand or gravel, and an auger conveyor (10) which is situated at the end of the bin and discharges the material through an outlet (12) into a chute (6).The auger has a pitch which varies between 150 and 300 mm, increasing towards its outlet end, and the chute can be adjusted between a position in which it lies parallel to one wall of the bin and another in which its outlet end is situated over the trench. The auger is enclosed in a casing (9) which also increases in diameter, varying from a minimum of 150 - 250 mm and a maximum of 250 - 350 mm at the outlet end, and the speed of the auger's rotation corresponds to the vehicle's speed of travel along the trench. The chute can also contain an auger (31), and its position is adjusted by means of power cylinders. ADVANTAGE - Reliable in operation, allowing trenches to be filled in conditions of restricted access.
