This invention relates to a hitch for fastening a tow strap with a long running eye to a rescue buoy and other devices. It is common for life-buoys and other rescue equipment to have round tie-holes for fastening ropes or straps. However, these round tie-holes are inefficient for fastening tow straps, because the straps areconstricted when tied. This constriction results in a loss of strap strength. Moreover, this constriction makes it hard to undo these tight knots and makes itimpractical to change from one type of tow harness to another. I have found thatthese disadvantages may be overcome by fastening the tow strap to the buoy with a long running eye loop, by straightening one side of the tie-hole and by adding awedge block to hold the running eye knot. This tie-hole with wedge block maintains a flat contact of all parts of the tow strap within the knot and prevents sharp bends and constriction of the tow strap. This hitch conserves the greateststrength of the tow strap and makes it easier to tie and untie the long running eye knot. The wedge block also limits the tightening of the long running eye knot, making it easy to undo. This hitch allows for a fast and easy change of tow harnesses.
