NEW PYRIMIDINE DERIVATIVE

PURPOSE:To provide a new pyrimidine derivative effective in strongly suppressing the accumulation of cholesterol ester in macrophage, directly acting to the vascular wall and useful as an antiarteriosclerotic agent or serum lipid lowering agent. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula I [R<1> is H, alkyl, NR<6>R<7>, SR<8> or OR<8>; R<2> is H, NR<9>R<10>, SR<11>, OR<11>, alkyl or halogen; R<3> is H, NR<12>R<13>, SR<14>, OR<14>, alkyl or halogen; R<4> and R<5> are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, benzyl, (substituted) phenyl or together with bonding N form piperazine ring or tetrahydroquinoline ring substituted with phenyl; R<6> to R<8> are H or alkyl; R<9> to R<14> are H, alkyl, phenyl or benzyl], e.g. N-[4-mercapto-2-methyl-6-(N-phenyl-N-propylamino) pyrimidin-5-yl]-2-(N-phenyl-N-propylamino)acetamide. The compound can be produced by reacting a compound of formula II with a compound of formula III and optionally removing protecting groups from the product.
