PURPOSE: To obtain a bone cement composition showing a high maximum tensile deformation, by mixing an acrylic ester monomer with powder of ternary polymer of methyl methacrylate, butyl methacrylate, and styrene. CONSTITUTION: This bone cement composition is prepared by mixing a liquid component (component A) consisting of an acryl ester monomer with a powder component (component B) consisting of a ternary polymer of methyl methacrylate, butyl methacrylate, and styrene in a sterilized state. It is suitable for the component B to contain 55-89.5% of methyl methacrylate to the weight of the component B, 10-40% of butyl methacrylate, and 0.5-5% of styrene. For the component A, it is suitable be blended with a free radical stabilizer such as hydroquinone, etc., and N,N-dimethyl paratoluidine. Deformation of a hardened material of the obtained bone cement composition is measured at 10% of its maximum elongation using an extensometer and its distortion factor is calculated from the elongation at fracture point. Values obtained are shown in the diagram. |
